Chat It Up!
Thursdays from 5pm-7pm
Chat it Up! provides an outlet for youth to learn about current events and share their opinions, for discussion about topics such as race, gender, politics, sex, LGBT rights, violence, and other issues that apply to youth. Occasionally, guest speakers share their firsthand experiences and knowledge with our youth and take our youth on field trips to learn more about an issue or event.
In Chat it Up! groups we have discussed the military's policy on LGBT servicemembers with presentations from Darren Manzella of the Servicemembers' Legal Defense Network and a current lesbian military officer. We also brought a group of our youth to see a special screening of Freeheld, a documentary about a dying veteran police officer's struggle to pass her pension benefits onto her partner.
