SMYAL - Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders

YOUTH ADVOCATES PROGRAM

Mondays 6-8pm

Through the Youth Advocates Program (YAP), youth advocate for the equal rights and treatment of LGBTQ youth. The goal of YAP is to provide opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills, raise awareness about the LGBTQ community, help make safer spaces for LGBTQ youth and allies, and advocate for positive social change.

As a Youth Advocate, youth attend weekly meetings on Mondays from November 5, 2012 to May 2013. This year's program will start out with a free overnight team-building retreat from the evening of November 9th through the 11th!

Throughout the school year, participants will learn how to raise awareness about LGBTQ youth needs by educating our community, lobbying government officials, and designing campaigns. Youths' hard work will be rewarded with 90+ community service hours.

If you know a youth who would be interested in the program, application forms are available online in PDF format here.  All applications should be returned by Monday, October 29, 2012.
