SMYAL\u2019s teen and young adult programs are affirming spaces where LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-24 can build community, find support, and be themselves.<\/h5>

Teen and young adult programs are hosted weekly both virtually through Q Chat Space and Discord, as well as in-person at SMYAL\u2019s Youth Center in Washington, DC.<\/span><\/p>

Teen & Young Adult Program Information<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

We welcome all youth ages 13-24 who identify as LGBTQ+, allied youth, and those who are exploring or questioning their identities.<\/span><\/p>

All SMYAL programs are free and facilitated by background-checked staff with extensive experience in youth programming and development.<\/span><\/p>

Any new youth who are interested in joining SMYAL programs are required to attend a Welcome Session. <\/b>Welcome Sessions are hosted both virtually and in-person and are designed to help orient new participants to SMYAL’s community, ask questions, set up a programs portal account, and meet new friends! If you’re new to SMYAL programs, click here to fill out an interest form<\/a>.<\/p>

The Youth Center is easily accessible by WMATA metro and bus lines. If you have any questions or transportation needs, please contact youthdevelopment@smyal.org<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

Youth Volunteer & Internship Opportunities<\/strong><\/h3>

SMYAL offers volunteer opportunities and paid internships for LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-24. Whether you need volunteer hours for school, are interested in growing your knowledge and experience of supporting programs, or are looking for ways to engage with your community, we can work with you to find the right fit!<\/p>

DREAM Team<\/h4>

Imagine a world where all LGBTQ+ youth are seen, celebrated, and connected. Are you a young leader ready to make a difference? The SMYAL DREAM Team seeks passionate youth ages 14-24 to volunteer supporting Saturday programs for queer youth.<\/p>

Camp Free2Be Junior Counselors<\/h4>

Camp Free2Be is a summer day camp designed for trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse youth ages 6-14 in the DMV area. Camp Free2Be is designed to serve as a safe and affirming space for trans and nonbinary youth.<\/p>

Through Camp Free2Be’s Volunteer Junior Counselor Program, trans and nonbinary teens ages 14-18 can serve as role models, support camp activities, and learn leadership skills.<\/p>

There are two Junior Counselor roles: Cabin Counselors and Admin Support Counselors. Counselor applications are not yet open for 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
