Kalea is the Clinical Case Manager at Roman’s House, Extended Transitional Housing, coming to SMYAL as a licensed independent clinical social worker. Prior to joining the team, Kalea worked as a therapist and social worker in other community mental health settings including outpatient clinics, psychiatric crisis stabilization, and art-based summer camps. She is a self-taught artist and provides trauma-informed expressive therapy.
Born and raised in Maryland, she attended the great books program at St. John’s College in Santa Fe NM. She stayed in Santa Fe New Mexico working in community organizing efforts for Environmental Justice. Later, she found her way back east and earned her Masters in Social Work from Catholic University’s National School of Social Service, Washington DC.
When she is not at SMYAL, Kalea is likely creating found-object sculptures, learning from her plants or getting inspired by her two wild and wonderful cats.
