Little SMYALs

What is Little SMYALs?

Little SMYAL’s is a group dedicated to 6-12 year olds to provide young people a safe(r) space to hang out and meet new people, access resources, and gain support from staff while connecting youth and their families to community resources and services. Join us for art and crafts, enrichment activities, story time, food, field trips, and all-around fun!

When and where does Little SMYALs meet?

Little SMYALs meets on the last Saturday of every month from 10-11:30 am at 410 7th Street SE, Washington, DC.

Can parents and siblings stay during programming?

Little SMYAL’s is geared to specifically meet the needs of our LGBTQ youth participants. Our rule of thumb is that parents/ caregivers/ non-LGBTQ siblings should only attend if their presence would help the Little SMYAL’s youth attend and/ or participate fully. Little SMYAL’s does have a few programs throughout the year that are designed for family/ caregiver/ sibling participation, including our Little SMYAL’s Pride! meeting in June; these whole-family meetings will be highlighted in the outreach for that month’s programming.

If you would like to remain in the area while your youth is at Little SMYALs, Eastern Market is just down the street from SMYAL’s offices and is home to a weekly outdoor market, restaurants, coffee shops, and kid-friendly bookstores.

There is also a monthly meeting of DC’s Transparent chapter at Le Pain Quotidien from 10-11:30 am.

How much does it cost?

Little SMYALs is free of cost for all attendees.
