Sarai Villatoro Delcid

Sarai Villatoro Delcid (she/her) showcases leadership through being unapologetically herself and advocating for change for her peers. She was one of only a handful of openly queer students to attend Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, which inspired her to become a role model and leader to other queer students facing difficulties at school. Based on her own difficult experiences, she pushed to make the experiences of her peers better than what she faced.

Through her journey, she learned to understand others with different perspectives and experiences to inform them about all the adversity queer and trans people face for being who they are. This led to other LGBTQ+ people creating a more inclusive and warm space at school. Sarai will now be attending the University of Scranton, majoring in kinesiology, starting in the fall of 2024 where she will continue to push to create a larger, more inclusive space for queer and trans students.

“I want the world to know that LGBTQ+ youth is stronger than ever. We are going places no matter what gets thrown at us, and we aren’t going anywhere, our presence will continue to be visible worldwide. We will continue fighting for our rights and for our inclusion because we are no different from anyone else, we deserve equality and respect for who we are.”
