Julia Vazquez-Brunetti

Julia Vazquez-Brunetti (she/her) is passionate about inclusion and justice, and has taken part in a number of leadership roles that affirm her desire to work towards making the world a better place. As a student at the Edmund Burke School, she helped to revive their LGBTQ+ affinity group during and after the COVID pandemic, serving as a co-leader for three years.

During her time with the group, membership significantly increased and the group facilitated numerous activities such as writing cards for support packages sent to trans youth by Point of Pride and hosting a bake sale to fundraise for LGBTQ+ initiatives in the DMV area.

In addition, Julia has facilitated workshops centered around solidarity and healing across LGBTQ+ communities and hosted at the Association of Independent Maryland Schools’ Student Diversity Leadership Conference (AIMS SDLC). Julia will be attending Scripps College in the fall and intends to major in media studies.

“As a neurodivergent person, I never imagined myself—as a child—being someone who would be considered a leader. I thought that I would always be kind of a follower because of how I am, but that is not true, and I would say to other people that you can break that mindset and you can rise up to the challenge.”
