Chyna Johnson-Owens is a Clinical Case Manager for SMYAL. Prior to joining the team, Chyna has worked in the mental health field for five years serving both youth and adults. Chyna has held positions as the Program Coordinator for Therapeutic Day Treatment, Case Manager over Mental Health Skill Building and Intensive In-Home Programs, Family Case Specialist working with expectant and young parents in the Richmond tri-state area, as well as a behavioral specialist working with children with autism. Much of her work has been centered around mental health disorders, wellness, and advocacy work in the communities. 

Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, and raised in Northern Virginia, Chyna attended Virginia State University where she received her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. From there, she attended her rival school to further her education at Norfolk State University receiving a Masters in Urban Community Counseling. 

When she is not at SMYAL, Chyna is curating her Bag Lady event, teaching yoga classes, singing, and performing spoken word.
