Leif Siegrist is a young leader who has always stood out from the crowd. In high school, Leif became an active member of his school’s GSA and started an Instagram page for the club so that other students could find the same resource that had been such a support for him. Leif became involved with SMYAL his sophomore year where he attended multiple Activist Camps and was surrounded by a large community of LGBTQ people that inspired him to bring this work back to his school. He then joined two cohorts of SMYAL’s Youth Council where he encouraged his peers to discuss topics ranging from queer identities and disabilities, to police brutality, to allyship.
Leif said, “I intend to use the opportunities that I’ve had through SMYAL as a stepping stone to being an advocate and ally to other queer people, uplifting the voices of those that are more marginalized than I am.”
