Q: Tell us about your time at smyal:
A: I wasn’t out to my parents at the time, and I’m not sure how I managed to swing going downtown each week without them knowing where I was going, but SMYAL provided me a wealth of support in my early teens. I learned how to be proud of my sexuality, how to be an activist, and probably most importantly—how to come out to my family. Thanks so much for everything. The people who worked there, the volunteers, and the fellow youth were amazing.
Q: Where are you now?
A: I live in Seattle where I work as a fifth grade teacher. I am married to a wonderful woman and have a 20-month old son.
Q: What advice would you give current smyal youth?
A: It. Gets. Better. And thank goodness for adults who care.
