Monet Umana graduated from The Madeira School in McLean, VA. Monet has demonstrated leadership as a leader in Madeira’s Black Student Union, a member of Madeira’s GSA, a representative at the Student Diversity Leadership Conference, a founder of an affinity group for queer people of color at Madeira, and as a leader in SMYAL’s Youth Council. We are honoring Monet for her commitment to her radical politics, for her drive to eradicate spaces where people may feel disposable or undervalued, and for her intentionality in prioritizing relationship and community building. Monet will attend Howard University where she intends to study Psychology and Public Policy, with plans to go to law school and practice civil rights law.
