Synclaire Gilkesson is a dedicated housing case manager at SMYAL’s extended transitional housing program, Roman’s House. With a robust background in providing therapeutic services to teenagers and adults of color in the greater Maryland area, Synclaire has honed her expertise in culturally competent case management, previously contributing her skills at Seabury Resources for Aging.

Driven by a deep-rooted passion for advocating for marginalized communities, particularly those navigating multiple intersections such as identifying as queer and a person of color, Synclaire found her purpose at SMYAL.

Originally from Peoria, Illinois, Synclaire pursued her academic journey at Hampton University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Communication alongside a minor in Marketing. Her path led her to Baltimore, Maryland, where she initially managed two city council campaigns before redirecting her focus to better serve marginalized communities. Synclaire pursued her aspirations by earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work at Howard University’s School of Social Work, specializing in Mental Health.

Beyond her impactful work in social services, Synclaire finds joy in exploring different cultures through travel, savoring diverse cuisines, and cherishing moments with her family and loved ones.
